BackStreet’s Back in the in studios again
Just got back from an amazing three weeks of hard work in the studio with my BSB brothers. We went there on July 8th with high hopes and I felt we exceeded our expectations. When we landed we were all driven to a house we rented for the stay. I was the first one to land and was greeted by some amazing fans that welcomed me at the airport. That was definitely unexpected but an awesome way to start off the trip.
I was driven to the house and saw Q, our long time security, who got in the day before to make sure everything was ok for us. I was the first one to see the house and chose a bedroom. Instead of picking the master bedroom, since it’s first come first serve, I decided to leave that for someone else. What can I say, they don’t call me Sweet D for nothing. LOL. Brian was the next to get there and didn’t hesitate to take the master room. ;) The rest of the guys got there later and claimed the rest of the rooms.
A film crew whom we hired to do a documentary on the making of this album visited us that day. We got food that night and all went to bed early for a good night’s sleep knowing we have a big first day in the studio the next day.
The first day in the studio was really exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. Even after doing this for almost 20 years you never know how it’s all gonna come together each time you get back in the studio for the next record. Anyways, we caught back up with our producer we chose, Martin Terefe, at his studio and the day began with listening to a lot of new songs brought to the table by him and us. Before we knew it we had close to a whole album of ideas before even starting to write anything.
The next day we started prioritizing the songs we wanted to demo as well as started doing writing sessions with writers/producers that were brought in. From this point on, we got into a routine and flow that was very productive. We went in everyday from then on forward around 12pm to 10pm. Even though it started to feel like ground hog’s day, it flew by fast cause we had so much fun at work.
We did have Sundays off from recording but took the time off to film those days outside of the studio in London for the documentary. Both Sundays Brian and I went go to church first then came back to have breakfast with the guys. We normally always woke up and had breakfast together before going to the studio each day, which was a really nice way to start each day. Lunch and dinner were normally done at the studio while we worked.
Little by little we started to have a fan following at the studio and it was so nice to see the love and support we have from them while making this record. On our last day, in return we decided to do a little listening party for ten chosen fans. To see their excitement after hearing the songs brought the biggest smiles to our faces, knowing we have something good started. Having Kevin back in the studio with the rest of us was like riding a bike and our family reunion is now better than ever.
Our trip lasted till the 28th and we finished 15 potential songs for album consideration. We’re back home now and plan to get back into the studio in the near future to finish the record. I am now recharging my batteries with my lovely family. It’s crazy to see how fast James is growing. I am taking in this rest and relaxation time now so I can be the best I can be when we get back in the studio and you never know maybe a little solo tour in Europe soon.;)
Love Always,
Howie D.
#BSB31 Day 31: What would you say to the boys if you met them
Um…I met Howie on the same day as the NKOTBSB concert I went to. Usually I am a quiet person whenever I meet new people so I never really said anything to him plus I think that it was also that I was just kinda in shock that I was even meeting a Backstreet Boy. But later on I was at the Wylee Party that Leighanne was having at the arena and for some reason I talked with her even though this was my first time meeting her as well. I told her that I was a fan for 15 years and that her husband has been my favorite one since the beginning. So in a way I did kinda say something even though it may have been to a wife of a Backstreet Boy but still it was something.
If I ever get the chance to see any of BSB again, I would tell them that I love them and that their music have been there the ups and downs and they mean alot to me and also thank you for everything they do.
